Guidlines on placing wind turbines along our coast


Photos from the recently adopted DoEHLG Guidelines 2006 (Section 6.9.6 Coastal Zone) by Donegal County Council on how to place wind turbines along our coast. The explanatory notes accompanying them in the guidelines are:


6(c) Wind energy development with the irregularity of spacing is disjointed and creates visual disharmony on this simple curving coastline.


6(d) Wind energy development with simplicity involving regular spacing, a linear layout and level profile is

usually preferable.

Shadow Flicker


This shadow flicker video was videoed at approximately 7.20 / 7.30pm on one of the last days of August 2012.

It is in the kitchen of a house at Cnoc na gCapaill, between Ardara and Dunkineely.


The windfarm is Corkermore windfarm.

The turbine is approximately 850m from the house. The occupants were told they would not experience shadow flicker. They were told they would only experience slight disturbance, and only then at the dead of Winter.
